I couldn't think of a cool title :[Hello TK2A!
I guess I've got a lot to report!

As you all know (or may not know) I started college about a month ago, at the University of Delaware, majoring in Fine Arts.
I'm really enjoying everything about it! (except English).
My three core classes are Drawing I, Design I, Introduction to Digital Media (which is basically a Digital Photography class). And they are followed with my mandatory English and a "Media and Design in Culture" class as an elective.
We got our first three major assignments about two weeks ago and they are all starting to be due in the next couple days.
My drawing assignment was to take 6 fruits/vegetables and draw them using charcoal on a 18"x24" Drawing pad.
My six fruits are a Pineapple, Plums, Limes, Strawberries, Grapes and a Grapefruit.
The aim of the project is to compose an interesting and creative display of these 6 fruits and then to create an observational drawing using line quality and contour lines to convey the shape, depth and
characteristics of said fruit.
I don't have anything right now to show you, since I only have three compositions at the moment. The project is due the 22nd, so I haven't started on the final piece yet. I'll try and take a picture of my comps for you all to see.
And actually, if anyone is interested...while I was drawing the three comps, I was live on my stickam, so people/friends could watch me draw and whatnot. It was a really fun experience and I'm going to try to go live every time I'm drawing.
My address is
http://www.stickam.com/pangpangty I'll try to post something about the times I'll be on, or maybe I'll stop by in the chat to let everyone know. :]

My assignment for my Design class is an interesting one to say the least. I'm simply going to copy and paste the description they gave us, because its rather confusing and difficult to explain.
The assignment is to create a visual system for the White House Conference on Children which would be used as a series of 15 designs that communicate specific topics for workshops.
These 6” x 9” designs on Bristol board paper need to have a strong sense of identity when seen as a group. They should be a family of designs with clearly identified parents. These aren't identical twins, but you need to develop a set that is both diverse and at the same time, tied together.
This is a shape manipulation/placement and composition problem utilizing flat color shapes of cut paper. Strongly consider creatively stacking and overlapping your glued down shapes/pieces of paper. You are developing Form and communicating Content. Strong development of Process is required in this project for effective solutions.
Research and collect objects for use in development of a stylized “thematic icon." Stylize and abstract the realistic image into an emblematic icon to be executed strikingly in the cut paper media. Designer must compose strong figure / ground relationships for the designs (in this case image without text) to lure conference attendees into participation.
The master icon can be used in various sizes, hues, values, recognizable stylizations or abstractions, in part or whole.
Develop a color palette of your own scheme selection with no more than 3 individual HUES (primary, secondary, tertiary, complementary, analogous) and/or Black and white. Use no more than 3 hues/colors and appropriate tints and shades. Consider creative use of black and white in relation to you color choices.
The Child Advocate
Leisure Time
Child Development and Mass Media
Children without Prejudice
Child Care
Changing Families
Handicapped Children
Crisis in Values
Emergence of Identity
Child Injuries
+ An additional five topics of your own choosing.
I'm using Blue, Red and Green, along with Black and White. My thematic icon is a Drum, and i took some artistic liberty and included a pair of Drumsticks as well.
I have about 8 of these done at the moment, but I will scan them and deal with uploading and all that whatnot after I finish the final set of them.
[This one is rather difficult, if you didn't get that already.

Finally, I'm at my Digital Photography assignment.
We were assigned to take 3 self portraits using our NikonD40 digital SLR camera. We were allowed practically anything that we wanted to do, in terms of WHAT the photo was about or showed. The only "rules" we had to follow was that we had to use the manual setting on our cameras. We could NOT edit or manipulate the photos in ANY way other than, changing from Color to Black and White, adjusting the lighting/levels, and cropping. The poing was to get us actually using our cameras and learning how to take a (technically) good photo and now to take an okay photo and make it better with photoshop, youknow?
This one was actually due today, so I have something to put up! Yeah!

I really like my first and last one and I feel that they are excellent pictures in terms of concept, composition, and lighting. The kicking one is the weakest of the three, in my opinion.

I'll definitely have more to show you within the next week or so. I hope I'm not too boring.
Do you guys think I should explain the assignments as much as I did in future posts? Or was it a bit much? Should I just throw up what I did and say "HERE IS SOME ARTZ. HAVES FUN!"
You guys let me know what you want me to do. :]
